Filakto is a Greek word referring to something that keeps you safe. It’s an embroidered blessed amulet commonly seen pinned to the clothes of young Greek babies who have yet to be baptised. However, even adults wear or carry them in their pockets.

The Filakto looks like a small cloth pouch which is made in monasteries and usually contain very small pieces of flower petals and/or candles from the Epataphio of Holy Friday, splinters of wood from iconostasis or items that vest the relics of saints.

Not only is the Filakto blessed and keeps us safe but it is also worn or carried as a reminder of our Greek Orthodox Faith.
